My name is Blaise van Hecke and I love stories. I cannot walk past a bookshop or op-shop without going in to fondle the books. On holidays, I’m pretty sure that my family distract me when driving anywhere near these shops to avoid the long delays it might mean if I spot them – I have a ‘to be read’ bookshelf.
I blame my mum for this obsession because she is a storyteller extraordinaire and reading, writing, music and art were like food when I was a child. One of my earliest memories is listening to Watership Down being read – my seven year old head bent close to the radio – by a man with a deep English voice. I was hooked.
As soon as I could form words with a pencil, I created stories. My first ‘masterpiece’, complete with illustrations, was a story about people living in the clouds who turned on taps to make it rain. My mum still has the book covered in multi-coloured checked fabric full of my scribbling. Now I write both fiction and non-fiction and am always thinking about words and images.
I believe that reading and writing are good for you. Journaling has helped me live through many difficult times and I know from many people that a reading a book that resonates can be life saving or inspirational.
My biggest passion is to help people get their story, no matter what shape or form, into the world so that other people can benefit from them. I take great pleasure in working on a project from the seed of an idea to a book in hand, something that can be life changing for the creator.
I’ve started up this new website to share my passion for the written word. I hope that you enjoy my website and together we can change the world one story at a time …
